Apart from Pre-made Circle Birch Plywood Panels which we reduce we do not use MDF to construct any of our products as it is easily susceptible to movement caused by temperature and humidity changes. MDF should never be placed in direct sunlight or proximity to fireplaces or radiators etc as temperature changes can cause severe warping issues.
MDF is easy to damage and will fur on edges that have been knocked.
MDF has a wax protective surface which if machined will reveal its fragile and vulnerable interior fibres which will compromise the materials integrity.
MDF easily absorbs moisture if not sealed which will swell the material and again compromise its integrity.
MDF is not able to support a lot of weight, which can cause the material to sag or misshapen.
MDF contains formaldehyde which is a toxic substance which will continue to off gas for years. You can get zero formaldehyde MDF, but also comes with all the previous characteristics noted above.
MDF is overall the cheaper material alternative to plywood.
